The Super Switch Aus S01E05 – Recap

Last episode ended with the cliffhanger – will Ben stay on for the rest of the experiment? He’s been having a hard time away from his girl.

Here’s the deets of who’s were, because it’s been a week.

Ben and Christie (swapped with Tyler and Olga).

Justin and Neesha (swapped with Lachlan and Miranda).

Kendrick and Romina (swapped with Aimee and Marcus).

The beach mansion: Ben, Olga, Justin, Miranda, Kendrick and Aimee.
The city mansion: Neesha, Lachlan, Christie, Tyler, Romina and Marcus.

While the big question of last week was if Ben will stay in the experiment, it comes to a underwhelming resolution – yes, he’s staying, and he’s going to super try.

This week, the couples go on surprise dates, but also we only see a few.

Tyler takes Christie ice-skating to be like, ‘I’m Canadian, by the way’. Like, watching ice hockey game seems a bit more Canadian, but who am I to tell a Canadian what’s Canadian and what’s not.

But then Tyler’s really nice, and says he wants to take Christie on a date where it’s not around the boys and not around alcohol. Also Olga doesn’t like going out and doing things, so…

After wanting to leave yesterday, Ben wants to make it up to Olga. He’s feelin a lot better, and organises a dinner or something.

She doesn’t seem offended by his fish shoes, which is questionable.

Olga starts to cry because she doesn’t seem to trust Tyler, and wants to know if he’s actually serious with her, or if he’s into Christie, or if he doesn’t want to be with her anymore.

Marcus goes all out trying to make a connection with Ro after his weird meltdown last week, and so he does an Argentinian dinner for her, and buys her a present, and she’s super touched by it. He’s like, ‘Great, maybe I’ll learn to be close to a woman by being nice.’

At the beach mansion, they decide they’d rather do a group date and talk there. Ben keeps making these weird crude jokes. Like they’re talking about how he would have consoled his girl with a hug if she started crying, and he was joking about putting a foot between her legs at the table? No-one finds it funny, like at all.

Then everyone starts SLAMMING on Tyler, telling Olga she’s too good for him, and she shouldn’t feel bad about wanting his time, and it’s honestly wild, but gets tense when Ben tells them to not be hard on the guy, because he’s not there to defend himself.

The city mansion are outside having a few drinks and talking about when they first said i love you to their partner.
Marcus talks about how he got together with Aimee, and told her he loves her for the first time, both when he was drunk. Honestly fits into his vibe…

Neesh finds a letter from Jacqui. She tells the city mansion that they’re going to outback Darwin.

Over at the beach mansion, Guy tells them a similar thing, but they’re heading to Port Douglas to get their spa on.

Guy tells us the couples will get very different bonding. So the beach mansion will bond via fun, and the city mansion bond through the hardships. Is it a form of punishment for certain people? That’s not for me to say.

When the beach manor get to Port Douglas, they try and figure out what to do with the one bedroom sitch.

Aimee’s like, “I’m not getting the same experience, this isn’t that great, because Ken isn’t sleeping in the same room as me.”
She’s missing out on the connection the other couples are getting by sleeping in the same room and having late night chats.

The city couples have arrived into the outback and they look so out of place. I don’t think any of them have heard of camping before today, TBH.

None of them look ready for this at all, and I’m super excited.

Tommy – Outback guide

They’re met by Tommy who gets them ready to camp, and shows them to the toilet, which is a chair in the middle of nowhere, with a pit below it, and some newspaper for entertainment before they wipe.

Jacqui tells us that they’re going to accelerate the bonding process by having them face these hardships. Excellent.

Everyone’s a bit salty about the whole situation, Lachlan says he hates camping, Ro isn’t up for this at all. It’s actually so funny watching them struggle with tense music trying to camp. Like, I did scouts, and this is pretty much glamping to me, but go off I guess.

Over in Port Douglas, Miranda is having a hard time not being with Lachlan. She’s like, “It’s so nice here and I wanna be with my boy, but instead, I’m stuck with a stranger, which is wild, because this is a couples sort of place.”

Neesh tries to get the bed up and goes, “Nah, I want Justin here instead. It’d be more comfy,” and doesn’t want Lachlan to sleep up there with her, and Lachlan is like, “Samesies.”
Both Neesh and Lachlan are having a super hard time being here, and I think if Jacqui was there, they might be having a bit of an easier time.
They’re both on the verge of just quitting.

The cliffhanger of the night is will Lachlan throw the towel in?

Lucky, we don’t have to wait long to find out, just a quick ad break.
